In the lead-up to Brighton’s Europa League clash against Roma, two English fans, both in their late 20s, fell victim to a stabbing incident in Rome’s Monti neighborhood. The attack occurred around midnight near Via Cavour, close to the iconic Colosseum. Reports indicate that a group of six to seven masked individuals perpetrated the assault.

While the police in Rome haven’t officially confirmed the victims as Brighton fans attending the Europa League tie, local media strongly suggests their connection to the football match. The assailants not only inflicted stab wounds on the victims but also seized their wallets and documents during the attack.

Prompted by a distressed restaurant waiter, officers from the Viminale police station rushed to the scene after the victims sought help. The age of the two men ranges between 26 and 27, born in 1996 and 1997, respectively. The elder fan sustained three stab wounds to one leg and is currently receiving medical attention at San Giovanni hospital. Meanwhile, the younger fan, with two stab wounds, is undergoing treatment at Umberto I hospital. Although the specific location of the younger fan’s injuries remains unspecified by the police, local reports suggest a similar scenario of leg wounds.

As authorities intensify efforts to apprehend the attackers, their identities remain unknown. In preparation for the Brighton’s Europa League Clash against Roma at Rome’s Olympic Stadium, where Brighton faces Roma in the round of 16, police have announced the deployment of 100 officers to ensure security during the Thursday afternoon fixture.
