Krystyna Pyszková of the Czech Republic achieved a triumphant moment as she waved gracefully after being crowned the Miss World 2024 at the international pageant held in Mumbai, India, on March 9. Besting 111 competitors from around the world, Pyszková’s journey to the crown involved a series of events during the preliminary competition, showcasing her prowess in fitness, beauty, talent, and public speaking.

Moreover, during the preliminary rounds, several contestants secured “fast track” positions in the top 40, a notable cohort unveiled at the onset of the show. As the competition intensified, narrowing down to the top 12 and then further to the top eight, it eventually led to the classic Q&A round. In this pivotal phase, the contestants delved into topics discussed at the recent G20 Summit. Pyszková stood out by eloquently addressing a crucial women’s health issue — the stigma around menstruation. The 23-year-old law student and model not only emphasized that “being a woman is a gift” but also passionately advocated for breaking the taboo surrounding periods.

The final cut left four contestants to “pitch their purpose” to a panel of business moguls from “Shark Tank India,” representing different regions of the world. Pyszková emerged victorious over Yasmina Zeytoun of Lebanon, Aché Abrahams of Trinidad and Tobago, and Lesego Chombo of Botswana, securing her place as the new Miss World. These women, alongside Jessica Gagen of England, are hailed as the pageant’s “continental winners.”

Miss World, founded in the United Kingdom in 1951 as a “bikini contest,” holds a prestigious status as the oldest international beauty pageant. Notably, Indian actors Aishwarya Rai Bachchan (Miss World 1994) and Priyanka Chopra Jonas (Miss World 2000) are among its best-known winners. Chopra Jonas conveyed her regards through a video message, acknowledging Miss World owner Julia Morley and Nita Ambani, recipient of the pageant’s Humanitarian Award.

Krystyna Pyszková now steps into the shoes of the outgoing Miss World, Karolina Bielawska of Poland, whose reign commenced in March 2022. Remarkably, the 2023 Miss World pageant was not held due to scheduling constraints, making Pyszková’s victory as the Miss World 2024 all the more significant in this esteemed international competition.
