MTN Nigeria Addresses Network Connectivity Disruptions Caused by Damaged Undersea Cable
MTN Nigeria Connectivity Disruptions
MTN Nigeria, one of the leading telecom operators in the country, has released a statement attributing the recent network connectivity disruptions experienced by its customers to damage sustained by an overseas undersea cable. The company acknowledged the impact of the glitch on both voice and data services, resulting in communication disruptions for millions of subscribers.
Frustrated subscribers took to social media platforms to express their grievances, highlighting the prolonged network outage and its adverse effects on their daily activities. Reports of failed calls and concerns about the non-receipt of bank alerts have been widespread among subscribers.
Addressing the concerns of its customers, MTN Nigeria assured them that it is actively working to resolve the issue and restore services as quickly as possible. The company emphasized the critical importance of consistent internet and communication services and expressed its commitment to mitigating the impact of the disruptions.
The telecom operator’s statement also acknowledged the ongoing disruptions affecting connectivity services in several West African countries due to breaks in multiple major undersea cables. MTN Nigeria stated that it is rerouting traffic through alternative network paths and collaborating with consortium partners to expedite the repair process for the damaged cables. Leveraging its robust and resilient network infrastructure, the company aims to minimize service interruptions and maintain connectivity.
This recent network connectivity issue follows a series of widespread network connection crises faced by major operators across Nigeria a few weeks ago. Operators such as MTN, Airtel, and 9Mobile struggled with connectivity problems that were attributed to fiber optic cable cuts. Gbenga Adebayo, the Chairman of the Association of Licensed Telecommunications Operators of Nigeria (ALTON), attributed the connectivity issue to significant fiber cuts caused by road contractors employed by the federal government.
The cable outages are not limited to Nigeria alone but are also affecting internet service providers and cloud service providers in South Africa. Vodacom, in a statement on X (formerly Twitter), apologized to its customers for intermittent connectivity issues caused by multiple undersea cable failures affecting South Africa’s network providers.
MTN Nigeria, along with other telecom operators and service providers, is working diligently to rectify the situation and restore reliable network services to its customers. Subscribers are encouraged to remain patient and understanding as efforts are being made to resolve the connectivity disruptions caused by the damaged undersea cable.
