Names and Photos of Slain Soldiers
The Nigerian Army has released the names and photographs of the soldiers who were tragically killed on Thursday in Delta State. The army shared the details through a post on its official X handle on Monday evening.

As previously reported, the soldiers, including four officers, lost their lives in Okuama community in Ughelli South Local Government Area of Delta State. The military initially stated that the soldiers were killed while on a peacekeeping mission between the warring communities of Okuama and Okoloba. While earlier reports indicated that 16 soldiers were killed, the army released the names and photos of 17 fallen soldiers.

In its post on X, the army identified the slain team commander as AH Ali, who held the rank of a lieutenant colonel. The two majors were named as SD Shafa and DE Obi, while the army captain was identified as U Zakari. Additionally, the army provided the names of the other 13 soldiers who lost their lives.

President Bola Tinubu, like many Nigerians, has strongly condemned the killing of the soldiers. The president has also ordered the military to ensure that the perpetrators are brought to justice.

On Saturday, military authorities announced the deaths of the soldiers. The following morning, numerous houses in Okuama community were reportedly set ablaze, allegedly as a result of retaliatory actions by soldiers. The exact number of casualties from that incident remains unclear, as many residents had reportedly fled to a neighboring community out of fear of further retaliation.

However, the military has now denied on Monday that soldiers were responsible for the retaliatory attacks, refuting claims that they carried out the destructive actions in Okuama community.

And stated that the killing of soldiers in Delta State was orchestrated by members of the community. The army emphasized that the troops would not engage in any retaliatory actions.

Alongside the statement, the Nigerian Army provided a list of the names and ranks of the soldiers who tragically lost their lives in the incident:

The Nigerian Army’s announcement comes as investigations into the incident continue, aiming to uncover the truth behind the soldiers’ deaths. The situation in Delta State remains tense, and efforts are being made to restore calm and bring those responsible for the attack to justice.
