In a recent development regarding the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) for 2024, the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has divulged the cost for altering candidates’ names on its platform, fixing it at N2,500. This revelation came following an inquiry from a candidate, indicating a proactive stance by JAMB in addressing candidates’ concerns. Notably, JAMB underscored the importance of thorough deliberation before seeking a name change, emphasizing that such modifications are irreversible. This advisory serves as a precautionary measure to mitigate unnecessary alterations and streamline the examination process.

The query prompting this disclosure surfaced on Sunday, April 7, prompting JAMB to respond via Twitter. The candidate, identified as Kamdili, sought clarity on the cost of name alteration, expressing reluctance to make multiple visits to JAMB offices. As JAMB has divulged the cost for altering candidates’ names, it responses and confirmed the fee of N2,500 while cautioning candidates against hasty decisions, as post-registration name corrections are not permitted.

Furthermore, JAMB’s engagement with candidates extends beyond name changes, as evidenced by its recent bulletin release aimed at 2024 Direct Entry (DE) candidates. This bulletin, replete with detailed information regarding the DE examination, demonstrates JAMB’s commitment to transparency and accessibility in the examination process. Notably, JAMB also extended the registration deadline for 2024 DE candidates to April 25, providing ample time for registration and clarification of queries.

Moreover, JAMB’s proactive approach extends to ensuring the accuracy of candidates’ credentials. The examination board recently urged both UTME and DE candidates to rectify any disparities in their O’level results prior to registration. Candidates are encouraged to utilize either the NIMC portal or visit WAEC for necessary corrections. This initiative aims to preempt potential issues during the examination process, underscoring JAMB’s dedication to facilitating a seamless experience for all candidates.

In summary, JAMB’s recent announcements regarding name change fees, bulletin releases, and verification procedures signify a concerted effort to enhance the efficiency and transparency of the UTME and DE examinations for the benefit of candidates across Nigeria.
