Ondo State Unveils Portfolio Assignments for Newly Appointed Cabinet Members
In a recent development, the newly appointed cabinet members in Ondo State, Nigeria, have been assigned their respective portfolios. Following their inauguration, Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa swore in six commissioners, the Head of Service, and eight Special Advisers. The Chief Press Secretary, Ebenezer Adeniyan, released a statement disclosing the cabinet members and their portfolios.
The cabinet members and their portfolios are as follows:
- Mrs. Omowumi Isaac – Finance
- Olukayode Ajulo, SAN – Justice and Attorney General
- Engr. Razaq Obe – Energy and Mineral Resources
- Akinwumi Sowore – Lands and Housing
- Mr. Niyi Oseni – Environment
- Emmanuel Igbasan – Budget and Economic Planning
The Special Advisers and their respective areas of focus are:
- Prof. Simidele Odimayo – Health
- Dr. Olawunmi Egbayelo-Ilawole – Education
- Mrs. Olamide Falana – Gender
- Abduganiyu Muhammed – Special Duties and Strategy
- Hon. Gbenga Omole – Information
- Mr. Summy Smart Francis – Entrepreneurship and Innovation
- Mr. Alabi Johnson – Energy
- Babalola Joseph Ayoade – Infrastructure, Lands, and Housing
Inauguration of the Newly Appointed Cabinet Members
During their inauguration, Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa urged the new cabinet members to view their appointments as a call to serve the people and deliver good governance. He emphasized the importance of dedication, diligence, and focus in fulfilling their roles and responsibilities. The governor also called on the cabinet members to work in partnership with their respective accounting officers and adhere to relevant rules and regulations.
Governor Aiyedatiwa acknowledged the economic challenges faced by the state and the country as a whole, particularly the high cost of living due to high food prices. He mentioned that measures were being taken to address the situation, including releasing grains from strategic reserves. The government is also undertaking the construction of rural access roads to farms across the state and procuring operational vehicles and gadgets for security agencies, including the Amotekun Corps.
Furthermore, Governor Aiyedatiwa announced the allocation of N550 million for the payment of the 2024 West African Secondary School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) registration fees for eligible public secondary school candidates. The administration is committed to education and has implemented initiatives such as monthly payments of N10,000 to pensioners and N35,000 to public servants.
In his address, the Head of Service, Bayo Philip, called on state workers to rededicate themselves to the civil service and emphasized that his tenure would not tolerate lateness or laxity at work. He also expressed support for promotion based on merit.
The commissioners and Special Advisers expressed their gratitude to Governor Aiyedatiwa for entrusting them with their respective roles and pledged their commitment to supporting the government of Ondo State.
