Sources in the community have confirmed the release of the school children. However, the driver, who was also among the abductees, tragically lost his life at the hands of the assailants, who burnt his body. The police have recovered the charred remains of the driver in a nearby bush.

While it remains uncertain whether a ransom was paid for the release of the schoolchildren and teachers, earlier reports indicated that the abductors had demanded 10 million naira each for their freedom.

The Ekiti State Government has issued a statement acknowledging the release of the victims. Governor Biodun Oyebanji expressed gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his support during the rescue operation. The governor also commended the collaborative efforts of the security agencies involved in ensuring the safe return of the abducted individuals.

Governor Oyebanji has directed the Commissioner for Health and Human Services to prioritize the children’s well-being by providing them with necessary medical treatment and post-trauma therapy. The governor emphasized his administration’s unwavering commitment to eliminating crime and criminality within the state, vowing to bring the perpetrators of the heinous act to justice. He urged the people of Ekiti to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the authorities.
