In a recent interview on Dax Shepherd’s “Armchair Expert” podcast, Hollywood star Bradley Cooper revealed a unique aspect of his childhood, stating that he used to shower with his father. The 49-year-old actor shared that his father, Charles, often went nude around the house, leading to a casual approach to bathroom privacy within their family.

Cooper, now a father himself to 6-year-old daughter Lea, mentioned that he doesn’t hesitate to be in the bathroom at the same time as his daughter. He described their conversations while he’s on the toilet and she’s in the bathtub as their usual routine. The actor’s comments sparked a discussion about parental showering practices and whether they are appropriate.

Dr. Wendy Lane, a pediatric psychologist from the University of Maryland Children’s Hospital, weighed in on the matter, emphasizing that showering with children during their early years can have benefits. It can teach children about body parts, gender differences, bodily changes during growth, and personal boundaries. However, Lane stressed that no one should be touching private parts, except when assisting with toileting or bathing if necessary.

According to Lane, the practice of showering with a child should cease when the child no longer wants to participate, typically between the ages of 3 and 5. Establishing that children’s bodies belong to them is crucial. Cooper’s disclosure and Dr. Lane’s perspective shed light on the complexities of parenting and the range of approaches to privacy within families.

During the podcast, Dax Shepherd also shared his experiences, mentioning that his daughters, Lincoln (10) and Delta (9), often enter the bathroom to engage in conversations during his “poopy time.” Cooper could relate to Shepherd’s lack of privacy, acknowledging that it’s a constant presence in his life as well.

It’s worth noting that Bradley Cooper’s father, Charles, passed away in 2011 at the age of 71. The actor’s recollections about his childhood bathing habits offer a glimpse into a unique aspect of his upbringing and the dynamics within his family.
