Unaware of the life-threatening risks associated with the product, Eagle followed the advice of her stepdaughter, Kayla Fox, who encouraged her to try the nasal tanning spray. Initially thrilled with the results, Eagle experienced a drastic allergic reaction just 24 hours later. She woke up unable to breathe properly and discovered that her body was completely swollen.

Rushed to the hospital, Eagle received immediate medical attention and was treated with steroids to counteract the effects of the poison. She credits the fast response of the hospital staff for saving her life. Since the incident, Eagle and her stepdaughter have encountered others online who have also suffered similar reactions to Melanotan.
