American School has Agreed to Refund $760,910.84 to the EFCC: A picture of the former Kogi state governor, Yahaya Bello

In a significant development, the American School has agreed to refund $760,910.84 to the EFCC, which was paid in advance for children’s tuition by former Kogi state governor, Yahaya Bello. The school conveyed this decision through a letter addressed to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), confirming that a total of $845,852 had been paid in tuition fees. This move by the school demonstrates its willingness to rectify any potential improprieties.

Yahaya Bello, the embattled immediate past governor of Kogi state, allegedly paid a staggering sum of $760,000 (equivalent to about N992 million) for his son’s education at the American International School of Abuja. Reporters revealed this latest development, indicating that the school’s decision to refund the amount was communicated to the EFCC through a letter. The EFCC, led by Ola Olukoyede, has expressed its determination to prosecute Bello, adding further weight to the gravity of the situation.

The American International School Abuja has acknowledged that Yahaya Bello made the payment in September 2021 and has now agreed to refund the sum of $760,000. However, the refund will be made after deducting the educational services provided to the ex-governor’s son since 2021. To initiate the refund process, the school has requested an official written request from the EFCC, along with the genuine banking details of the agency.

Furthermore, receipts have surfaced online, corroborating claims that Yahaya Bello paid an eye-opening amount of $845,000 for five children to attend the American International School of Abuja. This revelation was shared by former Kogi senator, Dino Melaye, and US-based Nigerian media personality, Adeola Fayehun, through their respective channels on Friday, April 26. The emergence of these invoices has intensified the scrutiny surrounding Bello’s financial transactions and added another layer of significance to the ongoing investigation.
