Nigerian Rapper Opens Up About Mohits Records Experience and Mental Health Concerns

Nigerian rapper and actor Ikechukwu Onunaku, popularly known as Ikechukwu, has shared his experience at the now-defunct record label Mohits Records, owned by D’banj and Don Jazzy. In a recent interview with media personality Daddy Freeze, Ikechukwu candidly discussed the details of his time at the label, shedding light on the payment discrepancies and addressing rumors of a physical altercation with D’banj.

During the interview, Ikechukwu revealed that D’banj used to pay him a mere N50,000 for shows that he was booked for, despite the actual fee being over N1.5 million. He expressed feeling undervalued by D’banj, stating that the “koko master” treated him as though he was doing him a favor. However, he mentioned that the payment was later increased to N150,000 after obtaining permission from D’banj’s mother, who held significant influence within the label.

In addition, Ikechukwu took the opportunity to address rumors of a physical altercation between himself and D’banj, clarifying that he actually served as D’banj’s bodyguard and that no such incident occurred.

In November 2022, Ikechukwu Onunaku raised concerns about his mental health on his Instagram page. The actor, who tied the knot in May 2021, shared a post with the bold statement “I’m not alright,” without providing further details about his condition.

In the post, Ikechukwu tagged music executives Don Jazzy and Johnny Drille, indicating that he wanted them to be aware of his struggles. He wrote, “Shey u wan know? Oya na I don tell you. After una go say na joke. I’m not alright.”

Fans and followers expressed their support and concern for Ikechukwu, urging him to seek help and offering words of encouragement.
